A Spiritual Experience to Cherish Forever! The Aurora Borealis

Good Morning Beautiful Souls

I have just returned from a sacred spot of RnR in the far North; a few days of rest and renewal in Tromsø, Norway, cradled deep within the Arctic Circle.

I seriously don’t think there are words that can truly describe the feeling that you get when looking at the night sky above northern Norway - she’ is simply alive with energy and beauty.

When my daughters invited me to Tromsø, I felt immediately that this was the moment - the perfect portal in time to manifest something I had long desired. The solar activity I knew was huge at this time on our planet and to witness the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis, with my own eyes is something that was definitely on my ‘must do’ list.

I have known so many who have journeyed to Iceland or Norway and never seen them. Snow clouds roll in and visibility disappears. The veil above the skies above retain their secret.

However, there was not a single thread of doubt within me. Instead, I sent a gentle whisper out into the Universe.

“I wonder what it would feel like to see the Northern Lights… Universe, I’m here, show me.”

No pleading.

No forcing.

Just openness and gratitude to receive.

We landed in the exquisite city of Tromsø, greeted by crisp Arctic air at -6 degrees. As the temperature softened slightly, delicate snowflakes drifted down from the clouds above – light and playful.

“That’s perfect,” I smiled inwardly.“Let the snow fall now. Clear the stage for tonight.”

Wrapped in thermals, gloves, hats and boots, we wandered the streets like Arctic explorers - breath visible, cheeks glowing and our spirits high.

When we arrived to meet our driver, I instantly recognised the frequency. You know the kind of energy that’s steady, certain, quietly aligned. He was positive and excited to see the Lights again. Given that he must’ve seen them thousands of times… he still kept the same childlike excitement and certainty that air or wonder and curiosity of what would be revealed tonight.

We journeyed South as we’d had a tip off that the skies had good visibility a few hours due South. In the Arctic, clouds move quickly so it was a strategic dance between Earth and sky at this point.

Before long, we’d pulled over. “There,” he said - a gap in the clouds – can you see the stars!!

Stars began piercing through the darkness one by one, glistening like ancient codes reactivating overhead. We stood in a layby beside towering fir trees heavy with snow. Four-foot drifts surrounded us. The world felt hushed and expectant.

Then we got our first glimpse… A flash of green. Subtle at first, almost shy. Within seconds, she revealed herself!

The Aurora Borealis unfurled across the sky - emerald ribbons weaving, curling, breathing. She danced and turned with grace. Waves of luminous green shimmered above us, later edged with the softest blush of pink and whispers of violet.

It was not static light.

It was movement. It was intelligence. It was the most incredible piece of art I’ve every seen.

We stood there for hours in reverent awe, necks tilted to the sky above watching our planet communicate. Charged particles meeting Earth’s magnetic shield, transforming invisible energy into visible beauty.

What could have been collision became illumination.

What could have been chaos became choreography.

I felt like time stood still in that moment. I felt infinitely connected all at once.

To stand beneath that living sky, is to remember something ancient within yourself. A knowing, a humility and a profound gratitude. It is an experience etched into my being and one that I will cherish always.

Perhaps the greatest lesson is…

When you take time to wonder – what would it feel like…When you release doubt…When you stand open and present…

The Universe responds, and this time she responded with light.

We are living through the descending arc of Solar Cycle 25 - a powerful solar chapter that peaked in 2024–2025 and is now in its potent, unpredictable afterglow. This phase is anything but quiet.

The Sun is still breathing and still releasing. Still sending waves of charged light across the cosmos. When those solar winds meet Earth’s magnetic field, something ancient awakens in the sky…

The Aurora Borealis.

The Solar Cycle: The Sun’s Sacred Rhythm

The Sun moves in an approximately 11-year rhythm of expansion and contraction - from quiet minimum to blazing maximum and back again.

At solar maximum, sunspots multiply and solar flares erupt. Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) hurl plasma into space. A wonderful chap to gain further information from on this topic is Stefan Burns a Geophysicist on YouTube.

It is said that we’d passed the peak… but here’s the magic:

The declining phase is often wildly beautiful. Late-cycle solar winds can be fierce and sustained. Coronal holes open like dark portals on the Sun’s surface, releasing high-speed streams of charged particles. Geomagnetic storms ripple through Earth’s magnetic shield.

Which means…

✨ The auroras can still be spectacular.

✨ The sky can still ignite

.✨ The dance is not over.

Perhaps this is the Sun’s last blazing exhale before rest.

What Is Really Happening When the Sky Turns Green?

When solar particles reach Earth, they are drawn toward the poles by our magnetic field.

They collide with atmospheric gases at high altitude - 80 to 300 km above us.

In that collision…. Invisible energy becomes visible light.

Our guide on the Northern Lights was very informative and explained some of the alchemy involved.

🟢 Green — Oxygen at ~100–250 km

The most common aurora colour. Oxygen atoms release emerald light (557.7 nm wavelength) when excited.

🔴 Red — High-Altitude Oxygen (>250 km)

Rare, otherworldly crimson. Appears during strong geomagnetic storms when oxygen glows at very high altitudes.

💜 Purple / Pink — Nitrogen

Lower altitude interactions. These often trace the edges of green curtains like cosmic embroidery.

🔵 Blue — Ionized Nitrogen

Rare and intense, appearing during powerful solar events.

The Mythic Memory of the Aurora

In ancient Norse lands, the lights were said to be:

  • The shining armour of the Valkyries riding across the sky

  • The luminous bridge of Bifröst connecting worlds

  • An omen of great change

Among the Sámi people, the aurora was sacred and powerful - not to be mocked or disturbed. It was spirit, presence and a conscious force.

Modern science speaks of electrons and emission spectra, but ancient wisdom spoke of spirit and destiny.

Our guide told us that physicians back in the day would tell pregnant women they should'n’t look at the bright colours of the sky or their baby would end up cross eyed. White was also a colour that physicians would tell people not to wear - less they be taken by the Northern Lights!!

So much mystery surrounds the Northern Lights.

Why 2026 Still Matters

Although Solar Cycle 25 has peaked, we are in a phase where:

  • High-speed solar winds remain strong

  • Coronal holes can produce repeated geomagnetic storms

  • Major eruptions can still occur unexpectedly

The auroral oval remains vibrant.

In places like Tromsø, Alta, and the Lofoten Islands, the skies can still blaze with colour - sometimes extending farther South during strong storms.

A Deeper Reflection

Consider this:

The aurora is born when charged particles from the Sun meet the protective magnetic field of Earth.

There is friction.

There is collision.

There is excitation.

From all of this, we get the most incredible awe inspiring display of light.

It is a perfect cosmic mirror.

Pressure meets protection. Energy meets boundary, and what could have been destructive becomes luminous.

🌿 If You Stand Beneath It…

Those who have stood under a true geomagnetic storm describe:

  • A humming presence in the air

  • Curtains that move like breath

  • Colours that pulse, ripple, and shimmer

  • A feeling of being inside something alive

The aurora is not static, it dances.

The Invitation

If you are feeling:

  • Intensified emotions

  • Waves of clarity followed by release

  • A sense of endings and ignition

  • Heightened intuition

You are not alone under this sky.

Solar cycles move through us as well as above us.

We are in a transitional arc - the great exhale before quiet. Breathe in, exhale and relax, you are safe and you are loved.

The Universe has your back.

Much Love and Many Blessings

Yvette
